After a several invitations from Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo to the U.S. former President Obama, finally from 23 June — 2 July, U.S. 44th President with Michelle Obama, daughters Malia and Natasha, along with sister Maya Soetoro and family came to Indonesia for a personal holiday to Bali, Yogyakarta, and Central Java and Jakarta-Bogor. They had one condition only: to not be disturbed by crowds of press and television crews during this personal visit. But the enthusiastic Indonesians were challenging to keep at bay.
Following in the footsteps of the U.S. former president Barrack Obama, here are the tourism places the Obamas visited throughout their vacation in Yogyakarta.
- The Tentrem Hotel
Following the feel that culture plays a central part in Guiding actions towards services, Hotel Tentrem — a lavish hotel in a traditional setting, was the choice of Barack Obama. Embracing the sensation of calmness and tranquility, as the term “tentrem” in the Javanese language describes, you can begin your travels in Yogyakarta from here. You can see Mount Merapi from your room, spoil yourself at the spa, or even possess a friendly tennis game with your friends. The pool-view Kayumanis Coffee Shop will also supply you with the most excellent culinary experience.
- Explore the Borobudur Temple
The Buddhist Borobudur Temple is a magnificent monument no one neglects to see when in Central Java. In reality, for most, it may be the sole reason behind traveling to Indonesia. Built in the year 825, Borobudur has come to be the symbol of tolerance and ‘harmony in Indonesia’, since although this really is a Buddhist heritage site, people living around the temple are majority Muslim. The Indonesian government has meticulously and lovingly restored it together with UNESCO support. Borobudur is now one of Indonesia’s most important tourism icons.
- Get a guided tour through the Prambanan Temple
If you are an architecture and history buff, or even into Present-day politics, in your second day in Yogyakarta, you should pay a visit to the elegant Hindu Prambanan Temple, a 9th-century Hindu temple complex, that is the largest in Indonesia and one of the largest in Southeast Asia. Not only is it fascinating in construction and the construction, but the temple also has impressive historical and cultural features, reflected in the panels of storyline bas-reliefs, telling the story of the Hindu epic of Ramayana and Bhagavata Purana. When visiting Prambanan, Obama was especially impressed with the snowy monkey Hanuman in Ramayana Ballet performance. Perhaps you’ll have your favorite character too after watching the show.
