Safety Tips for Newborn Photography

Photographing newborn babies is one of the most difficult subjects that a photographer will ever have to deal with. Safety is therefore a top priority in newborn photography.

Use Soft Materials

This tip is a no-brainer, even if you’re just starting to take newborn photos. This rule applies to your newborn photography props. You should care for newborn babies’ delicate skin.

Choose a wrap with super soft and stretchy fabric (4-way stretch is the best), such as a jersey or shirting fabric.

Hypoallergenic Products Are Recommended

This may sound exaggerated, but not all parents are on the lookout for hypoallergenic baby products, such as soaps, detergents, and pillows.

Yes, it’s okay for parents because they know what their baby can do without any problems.

Keep Your Feet on the Ground

During newborn photos, try to keep as close as possible to the ground. When possible, place your newborn photo set on the ground. This shouldn’t be a problem as it is easy to photograph babies from the top.

Also, props should not be too high, especially if they are going to be on top, and not in the way (like a beanbag). If the baby begins to roll or move, they are safe and secure.

You Want Things to Be Strong

Props that are meant to hold the baby should be strong enough. If you are using a vintage wooden box, ensure that the wood is in good condition.

Your tripod back stands and other gear for photography should be sturdy and well-placed to prevent any damage or falling.
